The 7th edition of the ESMI Regional Stakeholders’ Discussion on Environment and Safety RSDES-7 is coming up on 1st December 2023 in Makurdi the Benue State Capital. This year’s theme; Environmental Safety and Food Security in Central Nigeria: finding sustainable solutions is aimed at analyzing environmental change, such as flood which is a common phenomenon in this region (Central Nigeria) as well as anthropogenic effects, particularly, banditry, insurgency, kidnapping, cattle rustling and other socio-political activities in the region and their consequence and threats to food security.

Benue state is widely known as the food basket of Nigeria because of her leading role in crop farming in the country. This stakeholders’ discussion is bringing into Benue State all the neigbouring agro producing states. It will offer the governments and people of the region, the opportunity to interface with their neighbours and share a vision for safety of farmers which will enhance food production for the country at large.

RSDES-7 is therefore targeted to have delegates from Benue, Taraba, Cross River, Ebonyi, Kogi, Niger, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kwara and the FCT Abuja who will look at environmental and anthropogenic effects to food security in the region. The delegates will include Government administrators, Parliamentarians, Financial Experts, International Agencies, NGOs, Security agencies, the academia, Traditional Rulers among others. Common democratic approaches and practices and sustainable solutions will be proposed and discussed and a communique prepared to achieve regional environmental safety and food security in line with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
