Abdulrahman Zubairu the HSE Group Lead of Dangote group of companies is to be awarded the ESMI Fellowship due to his contributions in the field of occupational health and safety. Abdulrahman Zubairu has been identified as a very good team player with huge experience in Health, Safety, Social & Environment (HSSE) practice. He has consistently maintained strong hold on environmental protection and community engagements, with over 31 years of working experience in diverse capacities starting with the academia, as a class room tutor in GSS Karaye now a Unity School in Kano State; Kano Sate College of Education, now Saadatu Abubakar Rimi College of Education as a lecturer; and left the college in 1994 as Head of Department of Chemistry.
He has been in the manufacturing sector since 1998 in managerial position, commencing first as a production manager and Pioneered the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) unit in the Dangote Group. He nurtured/supervised the unit to become a Department responsible for all HSE needs of the organization, in and outside the shore of Nigeria. The HSE Department in the Dangote Group has now grown into a Directorate and he manages the permitting and monitoring Department of the Directorate.
Abdulrahman is currently serving as the Group Lead – Permitting and Monitoring in the Health, Safety, Social and Environment (HSSE) Directorate og Dangote Group. As Group Lead , he is responsible for developing standards for permitting, interpreting regulatory laws and Government gazettes on – ESIA, PIA , compliance audits, evaluation studies and all other technical reports generation in compliance with the statutory provisions of environmental regulations in countries where the Dangote Group has interest. He developed the HSE policy statements the Dangote Group used in securing all her operating permits for all the Pan African projects the Dangote Group has built for sustainable development and participated actively in the development of other standards for the organization.
The Environment and Safety Management Institute has recognized these efforts and elevated him to the position of fellow of the institute. He will be inducted on the 6th day of March 2021 during a strategic stakeholders’ seminar in Yola, North East Nigeria
